Records of book owners and provenance records
The manuals for cataloguing book owners and provenance records in books have been based on the international cataloguing format MARC21. They are based on the Methodology for cataloguing provenance notes and marks in books in the MARC21 cataloguing format. This is one of the results of the project PROVENIO: The Method of the Book Provenance Research, carried out by the National Museum Library in 2012–2015.

Identifying books based on provenance records
The Methodology for using the provenance database to identify stolen books for the police and investigative authorities focuses on utilising the PROVENIO book provenance database to identify the origin of books for which there are reasonable grounds to believe they have been stolen. The methodology contains a brief overview of the typology of provenance notes and marks, their most frequent occurrence in books, and methodological guidelines for seeking out related information on provenance in the PROVENIO database, including a summary of relevant institutions that should be contacted in the case of any doubt or ambiguity concerning the origin of books.
